Tide Window Planner

Choose your activity and the next high tide time, and we colour the next 72 hours green, amber or red — so you walk, wade or camp only when the water lets you.

How it works

How windows are decided

The height model
We approximate the tide with the M2 lunar wave (12.42 h) plus the small S2 solar wave for semi-diurnal coasts, scaled so the peak-to-trough height matches the range you entered. On diurnal or mixed coasts we swap in the longer constituents.
Activity thresholds
Tidepooling needs near-flat water (|h| within 0.35 m of mean). Hiking and cliff paths stay safe below 60% of the half-range. Fishing is best on the rising tide between −0.3 m and 70% of the half-range. Camping ground must stay above 0.35 m. Anything within 0.3 m of a threshold is flagged CAUTION.
Why colour, not just numbers
A colour strip makes the pattern obvious at a glance: long green blocks are your real windows; the red flood blocks are when low paths disappear. Always confirm against the official local table before you go.
⚠️
Safety first. Tide predictions here use a simplified harmonic model for planning only and may differ from official charts. Always check the official local tide table, lifeguard advice and on-site signs before you go. The sea can turn quickly — if in doubt, turn back.
