Read the high-water lineLook for the stranded seaweed, driftwood and plastic trash line above the beach — that is where the last big high tide reached. If you camp below it, the next spring tide can float your tent while you sleep.

How it works
Why these 12 points
The one rule that beats all
Find the strandline — the line of stranded seaweed, driftwood and plastic. That is where the highest recent tide reached. Your tent must be above it, and well above it on a spring tide week.
How scoring works
Every box you have genuinely done is one point. 10+ means the site looks tide-aware; 7–9 means fix the gaps before dark; below 7 means the gaps are serious — including the risk of waking to water around you.
Why tell someone on land
Most beach-rescue callouts begin with 'they were meant to be back by now'. A ten-second message with your spot and return time is the single highest-return safety action there is.
⚠️
Safety first. Tide predictions here use a simplified harmonic model for planning only and may differ from official charts. Always check the official local tide table, lifeguard advice and on-site signs before you go. The sea can turn quickly — if in doubt, turn back.
